How To Be Productive

Wearing 101 hats as a small business owner can be a little tricky and often overwhelming, and with the arrival of a fresh new year to change about your routine, it's about time we shared our tops tips for being productive as a small business owner. 

 

 

 

1. MAKE SOME CLEAR GOALS

 

Without outlining and breaking down your goals you run the risk of letting yourself become overwhelmed, not to mention letting your goals sit on the back burner because you aren't following any type of plan in order to reach them. 

Start by noting down your objectives for your business for the next 1, 3 and 5 years - I would recommend breaking down these time period into small lots to make things achievable. It simply allows you to take one step at a time!

 

 

2. TASKS OR ACTION PLAN

 

After you have jotted down what you want to achieve in each time period, it's time to create your action plan aka... little tasks that you can complete every day to help you get there. 

And it really is as simple as that - don't overcomplicate it! Work towards some amazing but manageable tasks and you'll feel satisfied with your progress will allow you to keep moving forward and not get discouraged. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE!

 

Scheduling and automating your social accounts, blog posts, emails etc will allow you more time to dedicate to working within your business instead of on it. 

 

Aim to have your schedules update at least a month in advance, this means that you can update them if things change, but also have plenty of time to be able plan things in detail. 

Some great applications are Buffer, Later, Preview, AcuityAsana.  

 

 

 

 

 

4. NOT JUST MONTHS BUT WEEKS

 

Planning your monthly/yearly goals isn't enough. Planning out your week ahead is so important in being able to get all of your 'to-do's' out of head and onto paper. This means that you will have a really clear idea of what you need to prioritise and how to get done in a timely manner. 

 

 

 

 

 

5. DON'T HAVE A 10 PAGE TO-DO LIST

 

A big mistake that business owners make every single day is writing a HUGE to-do list and putting a whole bunch of stress on their shoulders to get it done all in one day. When what you should be doing is adding just a few tasks that you give 110% to and if you get them finished off you can move on to more. This has been proven to make people more productive as it makes them feel competent and confident in their ability.
